nameless mist

artwork title release date notes
nameless mist 2021.06.11 recorded on 4 track cassette in winter 2020-21. originally planned as a robin release until i made contact with folkvangr records, who has handled tape distribution for nameless mist ever since. heavily inspired by early bathory and darkthrone and mostly composed for fun in my spare time when not working.
nameless mist ii 2022.01.14 sophomore album for nameless mist written and recorded in early spring of 2021. written on 4 track cassette but recorded digitally in logic pro. expands upon the sound of the previous album with longer songs, more dense production, and a step up in brutality on the first side while the second side explores more melodic ideas than on the debut. also introduces keyboards for the first time.
lifeless 2023.02.10 recorded in logic pro in may 2022. a more complete melding of the melodic and aggressive sides of the previous album. strips back the production somewhat, eschewing the more dense layers of ii in favor of as few layers as possible to construct the level of atmosphere demanded by the material. the style i had been working in on the previous albums i feel truly matures here and comes to fruition.

"canon"

artwork title release date notes
dystopia 2016.11.18 synthwave ep recorded and released in one week late 2016. technically outside of canon but i consider it an important enough release that it belongs here. remastered and rereleased 2020.05.26 with new artwork (shown here), though the original release can still be found on bandcamp.
leviathan 2016.12.25 debut robin album recorded from october 2015 thru summer 2016. a mixture of progressive rock and metal tracks interspersed with more post-rock and ambient inspired moments. a rough concept album based on (fairly obviously) lovecraftian themes. a work im still somewhat proud of even if its kinda messy. remastered and rereleased 2021.12.03 with new artwork (shown here) and with a bonus disc of work in progress material, though the original release can still be found on bandcamp.
horizons 2018.09.21 the first "suite" album by robin, recorded from fall 2017 thru spring 2018. dropping the prog metal elements and focusing on a new style heavily inspired by guitarist and composer mike oldfield, this album consists of a single work in two movements. im less proud of this material today compared to at the time of release and ive tried to remix it several times but honestly i cant stand it anymore.
providence 2020.04.21 recorded throughout 2019 and early 2020. a continuation of the ideas presented on horizons but with much less focus on aping the sounds of the past and much more focus on exploring moods and feelings. providence is a series of vignettes arranged into a single work in four movements. this album planted the seeds for where my future works would go, though i have not yet returned to this kind of structure.
the fountain 2022.06.03 written and recorded in late march and early april 2022. a return to more traditionally recognizable "songs", and a notable departure sonically from its predecessors, carrying a freshness and urgency not present before, and certainly not present in the year and a half worth of aborted sessions meant for a follow-up. this album establishes my current working methods centered around "songs" mixed with "ambient pieces" and interspersed with "vignettes" that act like short interludes.
heartless 2022.12.16 written and recorded from may to october of 2022. a further exploration of the sonic ground whose surface was covered on the fountain, almost more of a continuation and expansion than just a follow-up. the songs are longer and there are more of them as the progressive rock and post-rock start to creep back in. parts of this album are more focused on establishing moods than following more traditional song structures. currently my favorite of my own work.

"volumes" series

artwork title release date notes
vol. one 2017.10.20 the inaugural release in what i called the "volumes" series. this was the first actual "series" of "non-canon" works i had created, with the intent being this would be where all of my more shitposty and/or otherwise "less serious" works would end up. this first volume is a series of ambient organ improvisations. i have not listened to it since it was released, but its one of the more serious entries in the series.
vol. three: lost in translation 2017.11.20 let me explain the title: there *was* in fact a vol. two that was recorded and intended to be released, but i never got around to putting it out. i put this one out first because i thought it was more interesting and then completely forgot about vol. two. this is another more serious release in the series, being a collection of more improvisatory synth and drum machine works. it also features the original intent of the series where each release would continue the track count, with this volumes tracks being numbered 6 thru 8. this was abandoned after this album. i think you can hear the seeds of some of the ideas i would play with later on.
vol. 4: in the air tonight 2017.12.31 this is the first proper shitpost volume in the series. i thought itd be a hilarious tease to sample the intro to in the air tonight and then just loop the first set of chords that come in. it was admittedly kinda funny. after hearing the results i decided to take it even further. each of the four pieces on this album is essentially the same loop at different speeds and pitches, looped for different lengths of time. all have been heavily manipulated and processed. if you listen to the entire thing in one sitting then please, have some more respect for your time.
vol. 5 - daddy 2018.03.15 this is even more of a shitpost. i sampled a bunch of gay porn and turned it into noise. i dont have a lot of words for this one but the opening 15 seconds of the second track still make me giggle a little bit.
vol. 7 - cr78 2018.03.27 is this one a shitpost or something else entirely? again, there was a planned vol. 6, but i honestly at this point dont recall what it was meant to be. this is 41 minutes exactly of a roland cr78 drum pattern processed somewhat and then left almost entirely alone. im not really sure what the intent here was, i think i just thought it was funny, but i suppose it could be seen as a kind of ambient music.
vol. 9: arp instruments, inc. model 2600 2018.05.26 a return to more serious works. once again, there was a planned vol. 8, but again i dont remember what it wouldve been. you can see at this point that the titles are completely inconsistent in formatting. i dont think this was intentional. but its funny to think it was. this is four sides of ambient music recorded using an arp 2600 plugin i had. its actually pretty solid i think, if a bit amateurish.
vol. 11 - d i s i n t e g r a t e d 2018.08.14 this one is another noise release, but i would consider it much more serious than vol. 5. its a loop that grows progressively more distorted over the span of 45 minutes. i have not listened to it since i made it. i have no interest in doing so.

robintronics series

artwork title release date notes
vol. 1: exposed 2019.01.04 first album in the "robintronics" series, my attempts at using the live looping techniques and sounds used by robert fripp in the late 70s and early 80s. the description for this album is filled with a bunch of dumb flowery bullshit but tl;dr this series is me performing ambient music with a guitar, a fuzz box, and a volume pedal. there isnt much to say about them but if you like frippertronics, you will probably like these.
vol. 2: dawn 2019.02.08 second album in the "robintronics" series. this one is arguably much more interesting and well developed than its predecessor. i finally stopped using an amp sim and went straight out of the fuzz box into the computer. does it sound better that way? i mean, in this specific case i think so, but i only really did it because all of fripps attempts at it were done direct to tape without an amp in the way, and i wanted to sound like that.
vol. 3: beginnings 2020.01.17 third and currently final album in the "robintronics" series. beginnings is sort of a prelude to providence, mirroring its four part structure with four robintronics "suites". it was also recorded and released in the winter of 2019-20 while providence was nearing the end of its production, so i consider the two to be sister pieces. the reason for the suite concept was because each suite was recorded direct to cassette tape in a single pass, and i thought itd be neat to structure them that way because each side kinda felt thematically and emotionally related. easily my favorite of the series.

soundscapes series

artwork title release date notes
vol. 1: a blue sun rises over this land 2020.06.19 the soundscapes series was an evolution of the robintronics series, the same way frippertronics evolved into, well, soundscapes. at the time of the first volume, recorded in march of 2019, i was still mostly using simple distorted guitar sounds heavily processed to achieve effectively very long robintronics pieces. my approach would change a lot over the years in terms of gear and sonic palette, but "very long robintronics pieces" remains a good way to describe the overall process behind my version of soundscapes.
vol. 2: the pressure of light 2020.07.03 the second volume of soundscapes, recorded a year later in january 2020, expanded on previous efforts by drastically reworking the entire setup i would use. instead of processed electric guitar sounds, i used a pitch-to-midi plugin to control a synth plugin. the tracking was awful for faster playing but for the sustained sounds typical of soundscapes, it worked out shockingly well. while volume 1 was recorded in multiple sessions as individual pieces, volume 2 was recorded "live" (to an audience of me) as one complete performance.
vol. 3: a cold monument to defeat 2020.08.21 the third volume of soundscapes was unplanned, and was compiled slightly later than the others from various recordings made throughout 2019 and early 2020. as a result it sounds closer to volume 1 than 2, though in some places you can hear improvements to the sounds. volume 3 is the "providence" collection, its the other companion piece to providence in that all the tracks were pulled from the providence sessions and all but *one* can be heard on the album. theyre presented in order of appearance on the album, with the sole exception being one planned for part four that never actually made the cut anywhere.
solitude 2020.10.20 solitude was recorded and released october 2020. not an official volume in the series as its a single rather than an album, this was the first one made after acquiring a guitar synth unit and hex pickup to attach to one of my guitars. im particularly proud of this one tbh. i consider it sort of an unofficial part of the series even if its only a single.
performance 2020.10.23 2020.10.24 fun fact: this is to date the only actual official robin live album. this was performed live to an audience of two over discord so it technically counts! i used essentially the same setup i had used on solitude, i dont think i made any changes. i fucked up the routing a bit at first so you can hear the discord "join call" sound enter the soundscape at a few points early on, i wasnt able to edit it out but i thought it was funny enough to keep. this is again not officially part of the series, but i still consider it to be anyways.

covers

artwork title release date notes
castlevania: 1987 2015.10.31 the earliest release still on the robin page! this was a little EP of castlevania covers i had done for halloween 2015. i dont really have a lot of cool stories about it, i kinda dont even remember making it, its been so long lmfao.
the legend of zelda: majora's mask 2015.11.13 this is a full cover of the soundtrack to the legend of zelda: majoras mask. this i think was the earliest hint that i would not be happy settling into a single niche stylistically. its sprawling and covers so many different sounds and i think i had some kind of concept like "what if the songs got more electronic and less acoustic until right after the final boss battle music?". some of the arrangement decisions i made on this i think were actually great ideas but the execution as a whole was pretty amateur. plus i got burnt out on the games soundtrack as a result and have hardly touched it since.
verdant eminence 2019.05.11 this was a shitpost. assuming you couldnt tell from the artwork. its an hours worth of quarter speed piano performing an ambient rendition of green hill zone. it makes shockingly comfy background music to sleep to! but its still a shitpost.
halloween 2020.10.31 this was a last minute decision i made halloween night in 2020. i had a sound that i was using on the aborted providence follow-up and i thought itd be cool to cover the halloween theme and get it out on halloween night. is it any good? i dont remember! will i ever listen to it again? probably not!
god only knows 2021.06.08 this was the first vocal cover i put out. technically not the first one i *ever* put out, i put out a few on soundcloud in high school, but the first proper one i did as robin. honestly i regret releasing it at this point because i made so many poor ideas in the arrangement, but it was nice to get my voice out the few times ive done so.
feel so low 2021.11.05 this came after a breakup id rather not talk about. i was gonna cover a different song but it wasnt working out, and this song called out to me instead. im notably more fond of this one i think.
UNDERTALE ongoing this is a still-ongoing project where i cover the entire undertale soundtrack. toby foxs games mean a lot to me, and undertale has been one of my favorite games of all time since very shortly after it released, and i figured in late 2021 that it was the right time to attempt it. its being done in stages, divided up into shorter EPs each representing a different area of the game. currently the first three parts, covering the ruins, snowdin, and hotland, have been released, with the rest still being on the backburner.
right where it belongs 2022.12.11 this is a song ive wanted to cover for a very long time. i dont really remember making it. id rather not talk about it. solid cover though.

unsorted solo works

artwork title release date notes
spectra 2015.11.26 this is the first album of original music i put out as robin. i dont consider it canon because it was kind of a side project at the time, i was just experimenting with electronic music and made these out of improvisations. except for one song which was a reconstruction of a house track id done once that i ended up losing the project files for. i havent heard it in years and i have no interest in doing so.
the rites of darkness 2017.03.01 the first black metal album i wrote! its all instrumental and its all bathory worship. i did this in a month for funsies and tried numerous times to come up with a follow-up before i eventually started nameless mist. this one is still kinda fun even if it also kinda sucks.
o h a y o u s a y o r i ゖ鉛ぬレょグ 遺円エ鋭ォコ ボ 2018.03.24 this should maybe belong in the covers section but i put it here instead because its not really a cover, it just samples one of the songs from doki doki literature club. the project file and title i still affectionately use when referring to it is "doki doki vaporwave club" because i think thats funnier. its kinda good even still lmao.
【my dumb sexy face ep】 2018.08.09 i was tracking lead guitar parts for a friend of mine and ended up with some really nasty noises that responded well to a pedal i was using. i spent 26 minutes twiddling knobs and recording it and called it harsh noise.
TXScapes 2019.11.29 in 2019 i bought a yamaha TX7, the tabletop version of the DX7. i spent a couple weeks recording soundscapes with it using custom patches id designed in dexed. honestly still a good listen i think and i wish id come up with better track names so i could throw it on streaming, but i never really got around to it.
the islands (demos) 2020.05.01 so back in 2018 after finishing horizons i had started writing a follow-up. i had the whole thing recorded as demos and was set to go start tracking at the start of 2019. i had recorded the first 10 minutes of part one and had it sounding *really* good. and then i lost the project file thanks to my external hard drive. i was so disappointed i took a break from working on it and then we moved to a new house and by that point things in my life had changed SO much that i decided to just scrap the album entirely and start over with a new one (this is a running theme in my discography, seeing as how this is where horizons came from too).
echoes 2020.10.04 in 2020 i bought a roland d-50. i had the idea shortly after getting it of recording an ambient album using only the factory patches. i cheated a bit and used some of the expansion sounds from the other roland cards, though. i think its a solid listen just like TXScapes, 2019 and 2020 i think was the point where i started making really good ambient music.
snow 2021.01.27 this is the first vocal song i wrote and properly released. originally i was gonna turn this into a whole project and get an album out of that, but that died out pretty quickly thanks to life events and also nameless mist taking off. its kinda about a couple breakups. it was all recorded and mixed on my 8 track cassette recorder that broke literally two weeks after recording this. im still mad about that.
polyethylene 2021.10.08 polyethylene is a spiritual sequel to dystopia. i dont particularly consider it to be canon the way i sorta consider dystopia to be important enough to be canon, but its still something im really proud of.
atlantic nightmares 2022.04.05 this is the result of my early explorations in VCV rack. i improvised a number of pieces and stitched them together into two sides of material, akin to tangerine dream type stuff. again its not a project i consider canon but one im proud of nonetheless.

collaborations

vacancy transport

artwork title release date notes
"Stairs" 2017.03.27 the debut vacancy transport EP. i dont appear on this one, it was still a solo project at the time, but im putting it here for completions sake and to write about the band. vacancy transport is a band formed by my best friend, derick penrod, initially as a solo project before becoming a three piece including me and mutual friend fox kemp, before eventually becoming just derick and i. the debut EP "stairs" is kind of vaporwave and has some cool songs that derick hates but i love.
VT II 2017.12.29 this was the first album that featured the whole band. a loose concept album mixing vaporwave, prog rock, post-rock, and other genres, it features compositions by both derick and i, everyone performing too many instruments to name individually. the art direction and concept was derick and foxs work, and the concept was all three of us. i dont remember making most of it, i think i was drunk for a lot of it.
DEGRADATION 2018.08.01 the second EP and currently final release by vacancy transport. this one features all three members of the band performing on their own piece, which i then mastered. derick and i have been attempting to write another album but unfortunately weve never been able to really find a point where were both in a compatible place musically. hopefully this will change.

"untitled" series

artwork title release date notes
untitled ambient split 1 2019.10.11 the first in a series of ambient collaborations between me and my best friend derick penrod. the first four EPs were each recorded on a friday and released very soon after recording, though the fourth split was delayed a few weeks due to mental health reasons on my part. we each recorded 15 minutes of ambient music and each side of each EP was written, performed, and engineered solely by whoevers piece it was, we didnt really collaborate that much on them, we kinda just thought itd be fun to put out some splits. i mastered each one though.
untitled ambient split 2 2019.10.18 the second in a series of ambient collaborations between me and my best friend derick penrod.
untitled ambient split 3 2019.10.25 the third in a series of ambient collaborations between me and my best friend derick penrod.
untitled ambient split 4 2019.11.11 the fourth in a series of ambient collaborations between me and my best friend derick penrod.
untitled ambient split 5 2020.06.05 the fifth and so far last in a series of ambient collaborations between me and my best friend derick penrod. unlike the previous ones this one was unplanned and kinda spur of the moment and also done months later. the process was the same though, we each recorded a sides worth of ambient music and put it out as a split between the two of us. all of the releases in this series are good listens i think.
